Whitelist
The list of
friends contains email addresses with display names. Messages from these addresses
are automatically recognized as non-spam. This check is performed
before the plug-in applies rules and uses statistical classifier. That is why
the messages from friendly addresses will never be filtered out as spam.
The following options are available in Training section on the Filtering page of the
main configuration window:
- Learn messages from friends as non-spam.
Messages from friendly addresses are considered as non-spam and
so training the classifier using them will be good for the classification quality. Sometimes
spammers insert a valid, existing email address to the "From" field, but
the plug-in detects most of these cases and doesn't learn as non-spam the suspicious
messages. The plug-in automatically removes
email addresses in spam (in the "From" field) from the whitelist.
- Add friends automatically.
The plug-in automatically adds the email addresses of senders from
the messages learned as non-spam to the whitelist. You can feed a set of non-spam messages
you have to the plug-in right after the installation. In this case, the whitelist
will be filled with your friends' contact addresses automatically.
- Extract email addresses from message bodies.
Email addresses will be extracted from message bodies and added to the whitelist.
- Use display names during checking the whitelist.
The probability of misclassifying a spam message with a friendly
address is greater than zero. You can make it lower by filling the whitelist
only with addresses having display names. This option prevents the plug-in from adding addresses without
display names to the whitelist
when you use non-spam messages to train the plug-in.
When this option is enabled the plug-in checks display
names along with email addresses while classifying incoming messages.
- Import Address Book automatically
If this option is enabled, the plug-in imports the contacts from your address book on every start. You can also import the contacts manually from whitelist page (using Import WAB button).
You can edit the whitelist manually in the dialog box for editing friendly addresses. Also, you can export and import whitelist items from text files.
Wildcards are allowed in display names and addresses. For example, you can specify
"*" as a display name if you want the plug-in to ignore it (check
only email address) for a certain friendly contact. "*@<server>"
as an email address means that all users from that email server are whitelisted.
